This project focused on Vermont Academy’s first impression with prospective students, and way-finding throughout campus.

As well as improving the initial appearance of the school grounds, we were asked to help realize the Head of School’s vision for the future, while also strengthening connections to the surrounding Village.

Tree removals along the main entrance were orchestrated in a way to preserve the existing forest floor, ensure the stability of the steep bank, and encourage rapid regeneration of native plant material. The first growing season demonstrated the structural and aesthetic benefits of surgically removing the trees and being careful not to disturb the duff layer. Signage was designed to compliment existing granite and architectural details on-site. The colors were chosen to look confident in any season, and match the recent branding efforts.
